2023 Fiscal Policy Challenge: Registration are open!


To prepare the next generation of economists, CIRANO, in collaboration with the ministère des Finances du Québec, proposes an academic competition aimed at finding innovative and rigorous solutions to current public policy issues.

The competition is open to university students with a bachelor's degree (30 credits or more) and master's students in economics, political science, taxation or any other related field.

Winners will share $4,000 in prizes, as well as the opportunity to present their thoughts to a team of senior government officials and to complete a paid internship at the Ministère des Finances du Québec (MFQ).

Deadline for registration and submission of the essay: March 31, 2023.

2023 Bourstad Challenge: the registration period for the 36th edition is open!
tw From February 13 to April 14, 2023, novice and seasoned investors will have the opportunity to participate in the 2023 Bourstad Challenge and will be vying for $35,000 in prizes. The Bourstad Challenge is held online (www.bourstad.ca) and welcomes high school, CEGEP and community college students, and participants from the general public, including university students.

Several CIRANO researchers present at the American Economic Association's annual conference
tw Each January, a three-day conference to present papers on general economic topics is organized by the AEA, in collaboration with 64 related discipline associations known as the Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA). More than 13,000 of the world's leading experts in economics are brought together to network and highlight new achievements in economic research. CIRANO at the COP 15
tw Several members of CIRANO, of our Board of Directors as well as many partners and collaborators were present at the COP15 which was held in Montreal from December 7 to 19, 2023. Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, CIRANO's President and CEO, was part of the Finance Montréal delegation. She was able to follow the rich and constructive exchanges during the many events, in particular during the «Finance and Biodiversity» day with Finance Montréal.

New Jacques-Parizeau Research Chair managed by Pierre-Carl Michaud
tw Pierre-Carl Michaud, full professor in the Department of Applied Economics, HEC Montréal, Vice President Strategy and Government Relations, Principal Investigator of the Health theme and CIRANO Fellow, will lead the Chair, whose main mission will be to analyze Quebec's major economic challenges through the use of massive data (big data) and advanced statistical techniques.
