Pierre Fortin receives the UQAM Medal

Pierre Fortin, professor emeritus in the Department of Economics at UQAM, has been awarded the UQAM Medal for the richness of his work and his remarkable contribution to Quebec society.

Pierre Fortin holds a master's degree in mathematics from the Université de Montréal (1967) and a doctorate in economics from the University of California at Berkeley (1975). Pierre Fortin has contributed many times to the work and activities of CIRANO. In 1995, he was named "the most eminent economist of the decade in Quebec" by the Association des économistes québécois. In 1997, he was awarded the Douglas Purvis Prize for his contribution to Canadian economic policy. In 2003, he received a tribute from Manufacturiers et Exportateurs du Québec for his involvement in this sector. A member of the Academy of Great Montrealers - science sector - since 2011, the professor was named Knight of the Order of Quebec in 2014 and Commander of the Order of Montreal in 2016. The Fédération des cégeps also awarded him the Guy-Rocher prize in 2020.
