17th edition of the « Rendez-vous » of the Autorité des marchés financiers

The 17th edition of the "Rendez-vous" of the Autorité des marchés financiers was held on November 22, 2022 at the Palais des congrès and welcomed nearly 400 participants.

The results of a recent CIRANO study « Mieux comprendre le niveau d’adoption Des cryptoactifs au Québec » conducted under the direction of Thierry Warin, full professor at HEC Montreal and CIRANO  researcher and Fellow in collaboration with Robert Normand, CIRANO project director and Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, full professor at Polytechnique Montreal and CIRANO  researcher and Fellow were cited during the unveiling of the MFA report « Perspectives on the risks and benefits of digital financial services for consumers ».

 

The day was articulated around two workshops as well as a speech by Éric Girard,Quebec Minister of Finance.

Workshop 1 | ESG issues: perspectives of three Quebec flagships that stand out for their commitment to sustainable finance

The integration of ESG considerations into investment decisions has become essential for a majority of financial sector actors. Speakers discussed how this dynamic is taking shape within major Canadian institutions and companies, as well as the main risks and opportunities arising from ESG considerations.

CIRANO's « IA and FinSustainable » initiative is part of this context of sustainable investment in Quebec and evolving ESG assessment and disclosure standards with the ultimate goal: recommendations for the relevant government authorities as well as a guide for the sustainable finance sector. 

 

Workshop 2 | Perspectives on the risks and benefits of digital financial services for consumers

The digital transformation of the financial industry is rapid and profound. Consumers are at the center of this transformation, which provides tangible benefits to them, but also brings with it significant challenges. The panelists discussed contemporary consumer protection issues and explored the various avenues available to support the confidence of all in a rapidly evolving industry.

During this workshop, the AMF unveiled the report « Perspectives on the risks and benefits of digital financial services for consumers » which addresses the major trends, highlights the findings and observations concerning digital financial services as well as the issues related to these services.
