Researcher at CIRANO in the Economic and Fiscal Policy theme, Philippe Goulet Coulombe is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). His research spans econometrics, machine learning, macroeconomics, finance, and climate change, with a central focus on developing new learning algorithms that enhance statistical efficiency and interpretability in time series analysis.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and is an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Forecasting.

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 2008, Markus Poschke is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at McGill University.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from the European University Institute, his research interests are in macroeconomics broadly, in particular inequality, taxation, growth theory, firm dynamics, entrepreneurship, structural change, and the macroeconomics of labour markets.

Nicolas Vincent was appointed to the position of external deputy governor at the Bank of Canada in March 2023. His term was extended to four years. In this role, Mr. Vincent serves on the Bank’s Governing Council, which is responsible for decisions regarding monetary policy and financial system stability.

Mr. Vincent is a full professor of economics in the Department of Applied Economics at HEC Montréal and co-chair of the Economic Cycles and Financial Markets research theme at the Interuniversity Research Center for the Analysis of Organizations (CIRANO). He began his career as an economist at the Department of Finance Canada in 2000. He was an assistant professor at HEC Montréal from 2007 to 2012, then an associate professor from 2013 to 2021. He was appointed full professor in 2021. He has also served as an adjunct professor and visiting scholar at numerous institutions, including Columbia Business School, INSEAD, the Banque de France, and the Kellogg School of Management.

Mr. Vincent was awarded the 2021 Marcel-Dagenais Prize for his outstanding contribution to economic research in Quebec and Canada, as well as a Savoir grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council for the period from 2022 to 2026. He received the Young Researcher of the Year Award at HEC Montréal in 2012 and has been named Professor of the Year on several occasions at HEC Montréal and INSEAD throughout his career.

A native of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Mr. Vincent holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a specialization in applied economics from HEC Montréal, a master’s degree in economics from Queen’s University, and a Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University.
