Economic Recovery and Food Autonomy

Friday, March 26, 2021


Mr. André Lamontagne, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, will be present live and will give a conference on food autonomy and Quebec's bio-food policy.

This event will mark the publication of a report written by a group of CIRANO researchers who draw a portrait of the challenges facing the biofood sector and proposes solutions or levers of action to be favored to respond to them and to boost the economy.

This event will also be an opportunity to showcase the collaboration between CIRANO researchers and government to support evidence-based decision making and public policy development.

Le Québec économique 9 : Perspectives et défis de la transformation numérique - More than 4,000 downloads!
tw This ninth edition of Le Québec économique, written under the scientific direction of Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin and Benoit Dostie and under the coordination of Genevieve Dufour, is available electronically and free of charge, as well as in an e-pub version.
Two events related to this book have taken place: on November 24, 2020 and on February 16, 2021.
A webinar on macroeconomic forecasting in the age of massive data and machine learning will take place on April 13. Details and registration.

Welcome to a new CIRANO Researcher
tw CIRANO is pleased to welcome a new researcher: Jason Robert Guertin is Assistant Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at Université Laval. He is also a Researcher in the Population Health and Best Practices in Health Axis of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec-Université Laval Research Centre.

CIRANO study: Attitudes towards vaccination against COVID-19 and levels of psychological distress in the Quebec population
tw A survey conducted a few weeks ago among more than 1500 Quebecers shows that they had a generally positive attitude towards the vaccination against COVID-19, but that some respondents were experiencing significant psychological distress. The authors of this study are three CIRANO researchers: Charles Bellemare, Sabine Kröger (Université Laval) and Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin (Polytechnique Montréal).

tw As part of work with the Groupe de Recherche sur le Capital Humain de l'ESG UQAM, Catherine Haeck (Université du Québec à Montréal) submitted a report on soft drink taxation to the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ).

Montréal Environment and Resource Economics
tw On February 26, a special day was organized on the theme of "Circular Economy, Resources and Geopolitics". This event was part of CIRANO's major theme "Sustainable Development and Agri-Food" and was led by several CIRANO Researchers: Sophie Bernard (Polytechnique Montréal), Justin Leroux (HEC Montréal), Ngo Van Long (McGill University), Martino Pelli (Université de Sherbrooke) and Charles Séguin (UQAM).

Human Resources Forum: The Transformation of Workplaces
tw On February 24, CIRANO, in collaboration with the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) and the Ordre des Conseillers en ressources humaines (CRHA), invited its partners to an exclusive Human Resources Forum on the theme of "The Transformation of Workplaces". For the first meeting, a roundtable discussion with participants (organizations) took place so that they could speak about their main issues and initiatives on this theme.

Bourstad Webinars
tw As part of the 34th edition of the Bourstad Challenge, CIRANO is organizing a series of webinars to further support the participants and their teachers. Three webinars took place on February 15, February 22 and March 11, with the participation of Miville Tremblay (Invited Fellow at CIRANO), Ian Gascon (Placements Idema) and Sounda Ladouceur (National Bank Financial), and Robert Normad (CIRANO). More than 200 people attended.
