Mélanie Bourassa Forcier and Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin appointed members of the Commission de l'éthique en science et en technologie

On Wednesday, May 6, 2020, the Conseil des ministres du Québec proceeded with the appointments of Mélanie Bourassa Forcier, Professor at the Université de Sherbrooke, CIRANO Researcher and Fellow, and Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, Full Professor at Polytechnique Montréal, President and Chief Executive Officer of CIRANO, as members of the Commission de l'éthique en science et en technologie.

The primary mission of the Commission de l'éthique en science et en technologie (CEST) is to establish an open, pluralist and permanent reflection on the ethical issues associated with scientific and technological activity. The CEST gives priority to addressing emerging issues that are not addressed by other mechanisms; it closely follows the evolution of ethical issues raised by advances in science and technology and discusses problems for which there are as yet no answers in ethical practice or in law. Incidentally, it may comment on issues relating to existing policies and practices. To avoid overlap with other jurisdictions, members of the practice communities are present on the Commission. In addition, the Commission draws on the expertise of multidisciplinary experts to contribute to the development of each of its opinions, thus enriching the work of the Commission.
