In memory of our colleague Ngo Van Long

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed colleague Ngo Van Long from cancer on January 15, 2022.

He held a Ph.D. in Economics from the Australian National University and was a Professor in the Department of Economics at McGill University and a CIRANO Fellow.

His research covers a wide range of issues in microeconomic theory with specialization in four separate but related fields of economics, stressing their complementarity and intersections: resources and environmental economics, theory of international trade, theory of dynamic optimization and dynamic games in economics, and theory of industrial organization.

In early January, Dr. Long published a new CIRANO working paper on « A Dynamic Analysis of International Environmental Agreements under Partial Cooperation » co-authored with Luca Colombo and Paola Labrecciosa. He has been one of our most important contributors to our Working Paper series.

Professor Long will be remembered as a very humble, kind and generous colleague. More than 80 researchers from around the world were privileged to have him as a co-author, and for many he was an exceptional and inspiring mentor. Many have had the privilege of knowing him as an advisor, colleague and friend.

You can read the message written by his colleague Hassan Benchekroun to pay tribute to him: https://www.mcgill.ca/economics/people/history/ngo-van-long

Our most sincere thoughts are directed to his wife, his children, his family and his friends.
