CIRANO organized a session entitled « Accelerating the Transition to a Sustainable and Innovative Biofood Sector » at the Montreal Conference on June 13.

The climate emergency, food security and environmental protection issues, encourage biofood actors to innovate to make the sector sustainable and resilient by developing new ways to optimize crops, limit losses, rationalize production, and improve quality control, while facing important challenges.

During this session moderated by Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, Full Professor at Polytechnique Montreal and CEO of CIRANO, several experts including two CIRANO researchers addressed the following questions

  • How does digital data harvesting benefit different organizations in the agricultural sector?
  • What is the role and use of data in reducing environmental impact?
  • What are the risks associated with the predominant use of digital in the agricultural sector?
