Bourstad Webinar : Registrations Launch of the 2022 Bourstad Challenge

The CIRANO and its main partner for this activity, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), organized a webinar to launch the  2022 Bourstad Challenge registration on January 12, 2022.

Paul Bourget, Founder and Director of the Bourstad Project, Éric Jacob, Superintendent of Client Assistance and Distribution Supervision at the Autorité des marchés financiers and Honorary Chair of the contest, and Fanie Dubuc, Enforcement Counsel at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and Chair of the Jury were present, as well as many partners of the contest. 

Each year, this contest welcomes participants who must manage a virtual portfolio of $200,000 and invest this amount in various investment vehicles. For more information visit bourstad.ca

 

Paul Bourget

With an MBA in finance and information systems (McGill) and a BAA in marketing (HEC Montréal), Paul Bourget is the creator of the Bourstad Challenge and has been its pedagogical director since its launch in 1987. He has had a career in college teaching while taking on various coordination and research mandates. Between 2010 and 2014, he piloted a financial education project at Collège de Rosemont that meets the needs of the adult population. He is continuing his teaching career in the Continuing Education Department at Collège de Rosemont. He joined CIRANO in 2015. He is responsible for two financial education projects: the Bourstad simulations and the FinÉcoLab educational games.

Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 2003, Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin has been President and Chief Executive Officer of CIRANO since 2016, has been leading the Baromètre CIRANO project on risk perception in Quebec, which annually collects data on Quebecers' concerns on 47 social issues since 2011, is responsible of the CIRANO Pole on the Socio-economic Impacts of Digital Intelligence and Main Researcher of the theme Innovation and Digital Transformation. Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin is Full Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. She is also a Visiting Scientist at Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health and an associate researcher at the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO).

Holding a Ph.D. in Management Science (in risks and insurance management) from École normale supérieure de Cachan, her research interests focus on risk management and decision-making in different risks and uncertainty contexts as well as public policies. Her research combines economic analysis, cost-benefit analysis, survey data analysis, and more recently massive unstructured data analysis.

In 2008 she created the RISQH network to raise awareness and share experiences on risks management, and patient safety and quality of care in health care facilities.

She participated in the creation of the Montreal Declaration for a Responsible Development of AI.

She is also co-PI of the "Monitoring and Surveys" function at the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology.

She has published numerous scientific articles, several books and more than 30 reports for government and other organizations. She has given more than a hundred conferences and is regularly solicited to speak in the media.

Fanie Dubuc

Fanie Dubuc is the Chair of the Bourstad 2022 judging panel

Ms. Dubuc is a senior enforcement councel at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). Graduate from Sherbrook University and holder of the Quebec Bar accreditation, Ms. Dubuc was responsible for legal and regulatory affairs at the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés and then Counsel to the Court Remedies Directorate at the Société d'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) before joining IIROC in 2015.

Odrée, CFA Ducharme

Odrée Ducharme works in the Fund Investments and External Managers team where she deploys various strategic initiatives. Previously, she was Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships, Developed Markets. In that role, she was responsible for developing and managing institutional relationships with major asset managers, home offices and financial institutions.

Ms. Ducharme joined CDPQ in 2005 and has held various positions, including Director, Performance Management and Analysis and Senior Director, Strategy. In the latter role, she advised the management team on designing, planning and executing the investment strategy. Before joining CDPQ, she worked at CIBC.

She holds a Bachelor’s in Finance from HEC Montréal and is a CFA charterholder. She is President of the Board of Directors of CFA Montréal and sits on the Board of Directors of CFA Societies Canada.

Éric Jacob

Mr. Jacob is the honorary president of the 2022 Bourstad Challenge.

He was appointed Superintendent, Client Services and Distribution Oversight, Autorité des marchés financiers, in May 2021. With the assistance of over 150 employees, Mr. Jacob supervises the activities of representatives and firms in the insurance of persons, damage insurance, claims adjustment and financial planning sectors. He also administers the eligibility requirements related to and rules governing distribution activities, while overseeing the issuance of representative certificates and the registration of firms.

Louise Roy

A corporate director and international consultant, Louise Roy is currently Chair of the Board and a Visiting Fellow at CIRANO.


Louise Roy has held́ senior management positions in the urban transportation, air transportation and communications industries. She waś CEO of the Société de transport de Montréal (1985-1992), Executive Vice President for the Americas of Air France at its Paris headquarters (1994-1997), CEO of Telemedia Communications Inc. (1997-2000) and Executive Vice President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) (2000-2003).


Since September 2003, Ms. Roy has been a Visiting Fellow at CIRANO and, since 2012, she has chaired the Board of Directors of this Center for Applied Research in Public Policy. She was Chancellor and Chair of the Board of the University of Montreal from 2008 to 2018 and was named Chancellor Emeritus.


During her career, she has also served as a director of Power Financial Corporation and Intact Financial Corporation, the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), Montreal International, Provigo Inc, Laurentian Bank of Canada, Videotron Ltd. and Domtar Corporation. She has chaired the Board of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, a cultural granting organization. Ms. Roy is currently a director of the Opéra de Montréal, the Montreal International Music Competition Foundation (MIMC) and the Montreal Airport.

Cathy Sleiman

Cathy Sleiman is Senior Manager, Eastern Canada, for TD Bank's direct investments.
Graduate in finance from the École des sciences de la gestion (UQAM), she has held various positions within the TD Bank for the past 16 years.
