Biography

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 1994, Jean-Marc Suret is Associate Professor in the School of Accounting at Université Laval.

Holding a Ph.D. in Finance from Université Laval, he specializes in corporate finance, public policy and regulation.

For a number of years, his research has looked at corporate financeand the mechanisms determining share prices. He has focused particularly onfinancing and dividend policies and the impact of government intervention onthe behaviour of companies in this regard. He is currently investigating howagents with heterogeneous expectations determine the price of shares from basicdata. Other topics he is studying are the effect of new information on themarket, the impact of different accounting systems, and the efficiency of stockmarkets outside North America.

He has published numerous articles in scientific journals such as Journal of Business Venturing, Contemporary Accounting Research, Small Business Economics, Journal of International Business Studies, Venture Capital and Financial Review. He has also published several studies in thematic journals, including Canadian Tax Journal, Canadian Public Policy, Journal of Private Equity and Canadian Investment Review.
